Uttan Beach

IMG_20131014_175552

Uttan has a very beautiful beach, in fact it has one of the cleanest beaches since ancient days on the coast of Arabian Sea

IMG_20131014_183206.IMG_20131014_180004

This village has predominantly Koli Christian Community, whose main occupation is fishing.

As soon as you enter Uttan, you would find huge fishing trawlers on the right hand side and very distinguishing dry fish smell. Koli women busy segregating fish like prawns, bombil, bangara and pomfret from the basket, preparing huge rice rotis, which many of us would find un-common if you have not been to an East Indian village in Mumbai.

The quality of fish found in this water is very good since beach is pollutant free. The fish found here is very tasty.

There are beautiful gothic bungalows which have some amazing architecture; one of the most prominent things you would observe are the small shrines which have Jesus and Mother Mary. Even the boats here are named after Christian Saints.

You can reach Uttan by your car or by public transport. Once you reach Uttan Naka the lanes become very narrow. So it is preferable if you park your car somewhere near the Naka and walk through narrow Uttan lanes to get soaked in this beautiful atmosphere. It would take 20 to 25 minutes to reach Uttan Beach as it has some steep slopes. MBMT buses have recently started a bus service it takes you directly to Our Lady of Vailankanni Shrine, Bhate Bunder. One of the most well-known and it is also considered a miraculous church by locals. You would find many devotees specially visiting Uttan to come to this Church. It was renovated a few years back and was inaugurated by Archbishop of Mumbai. There are many churches in this area.

People from Mumbai also come here during weekends to get relaxed, enjoy a nice picnic with friends and family at the beautiful resorts. The night temperature here is generally pleasant and cool.

Since, one of the India’s best theme parks like Water Kingdom and Essel World are located in this vicinity you would find many tourists here.

Sachin Tendulkar’s Farewell Speech.

Friends please settle down, else I will get more and more emotional and it will be difficult to talk. You have played an important role in my life.

For 24 years, batting on the 22 yards has been my life. It’s hard to believe my wonderful journey is coming to an end.

I want to thank the most important person in my life, my father, who left me in 1999. Without his guidance I wouldn’t be standing in front of you. He said chase your dreams, don’t give up, the path will be difficult.

My mom, I don’t know how she managed a naughty child like me. She just prayed and prayed from the day I started playing the game. For four years I stayed with my uncle and aunt when in school, they treated me like their own son. My eldest brother Nitin who doesn’t like to talk much but he said, whatever you do, I know you will give 100 percent. My first cricket bat was presented to me by my sister Savita. She still continues to fast while I bat.

What do I say about Ajit, We have lived this dream together, he sacrificed his career for me, he was the one who took me to Achrekar Sir first. Even last night he called me to discuss my dismissal. I guess even when I’m not playing we will still be discussing technique. If that hadn’t happened, I would have been a lesser cricketer.

The most beautiful thing happened to me when I met Anjali in 1990. I know that being a doctor there was a big career in front of her. But she decided that I should continue playing and took care of the children. Thanks for bearing with me for all the nonsense I’ve said.

Then the two precious diamonds of my life daughter Sara and son Arjun. I’ve missed out on several birthdays, holidays. I know for 14-16 years I’ve not spent enough time with you. But I promise you I will spend the next 16.

Thanks to all the senior cricketers who have played with me. We see on the big screen Rahul, Laxman, Ganguly, Kumble who is not here. All the coaches. I know when Dhoni presented the 200th Test cap, I had a message to the team – I said we are all so proud to be representing the nation. I have full faith that you will serve the country in the right spirit.

I will be failing in my duty if I didn’t thank the doctors who have kept me fit. I don’t know how they have managed to do that given the injuries I have suffered

.Image

The media has backed me a lot, since my school days. Thanks to the photographers for capturing those special moments.

I know my speech has become long. I want to thank people who have flown in from different parts of the world. I want to thank my fans from the bottom of my heart, Sachin! Sachin! will reverberate in my ears till I stop breathing.

Matheran the smallest hill station in India located approximately 110 km’s from Mumbai. Its actual meaning is a place topped by jungle.

Transportation:

If you are travelling from Mumbai the best option would be taking a

Central RailwayImagetrain from CST Station or Dadar Station to Neral. The travel time by train from Dadar to Neral is 1 hour 24 mins.

Local Trains frequency to Neral is a bit of an issue, as there is usually 1 train or at times maximum 2 trains in an hour.

Local Train Fare is Rs 20 from Dadar to Neral.

If you don’t want to be at a mercy of Mumbai Locals, you can book your ticket in advance in the Deccan Express Train which leaves CST at approx. 7am and reaches Dadar 7:13 am, This would drop you at Neral at 8:28 am.

Once you get down at Neral, you would find huge queue, don’t worry these are people who are trying to get tickets for Toy Train. One person is allowed to buy only 4 tickets. The tickets sales for the Toy Train to Matheran usually starts 45 minutes before departure and more often you will find that the tickets are sold out as this train accommodate only 110 passengers. Toy Train takes 2 hours to cover 21 km’s. I found the Central railway employees very helpful as they gave they gave me quick update about Tout’s and some important info in dealing with certain people around. There are also regular announcements made on Ticket the availability and Train departure update.

Unfortunately, if you don’t get the toy train tickets and would like to reach Matheran early, Take a right after you come out of Neral Station, from there you can take a cab to Dasturi Naka.

The charge per seat in this cab is Rs 70/-, they usually have 5 people in this cab and it is a Maruti Omni or Eeco. The journey might not be comfortable or memorable. However it will help you to reach Dasturi Naka within 20 to 25 minutes which is 2.5 km’s from the Matheran Station.

You can only take your car till Dasturi Naka, after this point cars are banned, since this is an eco-sensitive region.

Once you enter Dasturi Naka, you would have to pay a Capitation Tax of Rs 50/- per adult.

Enjoy Matheran!!!
